I create art and functional objects driven by a love of process and inspired by nature. On this site you’ll discover many of the images currently on display in the studio and learn about the processes used to create them.
Located in Nashville, TN and surrounded by beautiful valleys and changing landscapes, I am drawn to the stories of those who inhabit and helped form my own history. So often the landscape seems like a living character in that narrative. Using natural elements like bees wax, clay and natural fibers, I explore the beauty of the everyday and the past.
Encaustic Painting
Combining bees wax, damar varnish and dried pigments, encaustic painting is wild and unruly. Colors are vibrant and complex. The subjects I choose to explore with this medium demand their freedom and refuse to be overly controlled. This leads to a spontaneity and realization that sometimes the “mistakes” are the best part of a finished product.
